We welcome guests of all levels of experience and accomplishment. We foster a safe environment where shooters can develop and improve their skills.
We seek to build a supportive shooting community — to promote safety, to exercise our 2nd Amendment rights, and to have some fun.

Brand-new to firearms or a lifelong shooter — same range, same welcome. RSOs are happy to walk first-timers through the desk and the line.
A place to develop skills.
Every public shoot is run by a Range Safety Officer on duty. We’re set up so people can practice and improve without fear of doing it wrong.
Supportive, not stuffy.
A sportsman’s association, not a country club. Members pitch in, neighbors know each other, and visitors leave better than they arrived.

How we
got here.
The High Rock Shooting Association was founded in 1989 as a sportsman’s association to operate a weekend public-access range in the Naugatuck State Forest. The club has been member-run from day one.
Our agreement with the State sets the terms: members get weekday access, but on weekends the general public takes priority for ports. That’s the deal we made, and the deal we keep.
What started as a handful of locals on a couple of berms now hosts upwards of 130 members, Cowboy Action shoots one Sunday a month, monthly meetings at the VFW in Waterbury, and a steady stream of weekend visitors — many of them first-timers.
We don’t own the property; we operate the range. That keeps us honest. Our job is to leave the Rock in better shape for the next generation than we found it.
