Do I need a pistol permit?
Yes — for pistol shooting, you'll want a Connecticut pistol permit or a blue card on you. Black-powder pistol is the one exception. Coming out as a group? A whole party can shoot pistols under one permit holder's card, as long as you're all together at the same port.
Can I rent a firearm?
Sorry, no. High Rock does not rent anything. We have no retail operations at the range. Bring whatever you'd like to shoot — along with your own ammo and paper targets.
Are metal or reactive targets allowed?
Paper only at the Rock, placed at least 25 feet down range. We pass on glass, ceramic, exploding targets, and anything with a face printed on it. Keeps the range safe and the berms healthy for everyone.
What about kids?
Kids under 16 always shoot free, supervised by an adult the whole time — bring ’em out, it's a great place to start. The RSO on duty has the final word on a young shooter's safe participation, and they're happy to help you get set up.
Can I show up alone?
Absolutely — solo visitors are very welcome. An RSO is on duty every public shoot and is genuinely happy to walk first-timers through the desk, the safety briefing, and finding a port. You won't be on your own.
What if the weather looks rough?
We close when the weather turns unsafe — better that than a wasted drive. Pop over to our Facebook and Instagram before you head out; the weekly post always has the latest call.
